Children's Library
at the Western Academy of Beijing
Studio Vapore collaborated with the Western Academy of Beijing to reimagine their elementary school library—transforming it into a space where students can read, learn, and explore like characters in a storybook.
The new library blends functionality with imagination. Inspired by timeless children’s stories from around the world, the space features a landscape of custom platforms in varying heights that shape different zones: reading nooks, quiet corners, group areas, and places for books to live and grow.
A bamboo forest, a cave, and a small village invite students to move, gather, and imagine. At the center, a Tibetan-inspired storytelling tower leads up to a hang-out net—a favorite spot for reading or daydreaming. Circular modular shelves allow the layout to shift easily, adapting to changing needs. A warm, harmonious color palette, drawn from traditional Chinese architecture, brings a sense of calm and identity.
Throughout the library, interactive features like whispering tubes, periscopes, and hidden crystals add layers of discovery. Acoustic treatments keep the space comfortable and focused, even with multiple activities happening at once.
This project reflects Studio Vapore’s ongoing exploration of educational environments—spaces that support learning while sparking curiosity, creativity, and a sense of wonder.
Studio Vapore与北京京西学校合作,重新构想了他们的小学图书馆——将其打造成一个如童话般的空间,让学生们可以像故事中的角色一样在其中阅读、学习与探索。
新图书馆在功能性与想象力之间取得平衡。设计灵感来自世界各地的经典童话故事,通过高低错落的定制平台构建出不同的区域:阅读角、安静空间、小组活动区,以及藏书的“家”。
竹林平台、洞穴、小村庄式的空间鼓励孩子们在其中穿梭、聚集、发挥想象力。图书馆的中心是一座藏族风格的讲故事塔,塔顶连接着一个网状平台,是学生们阅读或发呆的最爱角落。模块化的圆形书架提供灵活的布局选择,方便应对不同教学活动的需求。空间色彩灵感来自中国传统建筑,营造出温暖而协调的氛围。
图书馆还设有耳语传声管、潜望镜、隐藏的水晶等互动装置,鼓励探索与参与。吸音材料确保空间在同时承载多种活动时依然安静而专注。
该项目体现了Studio Vapore对教育空间的持续探索——不仅满足学习功能,更激发好奇心、创造力与想象力。
