Dragon Dens
Aquatic
ISB - International School of Beijing
The Dragon Den is a series of three sensory rooms created within unused spaces across the elementary school.
Designed as calm environments, the rooms offer children a place to step away when the day becomes overwhelming, before returning to class.
Embedded within the existing building, the project transforms residual areas into meaningful spaces. Each room is shaped by a different landscape—Terrestrial, Aquatic, and Celestial—supporting different ways of slowing down.
Second Floor – Aquatic
The aquatic space introduces a more immersive and fluid environment, inspired by an underwater landscape. Light, reflection, and projection create a shifting atmosphere that invites exploration and sensory engagement.
The space encourages a different rhythm—more dynamic and perceptual—while still maintaining a sense of enclosure and control. Movement and light become part of the experience, shaping how the space is perceived.
Within a compact footprint, the room offers a moment of distraction and reorientation, allowing children to step out of the intensity of the school day before returning to class.
(Aquatic)
